The Management. Curious about the Dresden perhaps? This series was the brain child of Jim butcher who officially had it published in 2000 with a book smartly titled "Storm Front" and now has nine. The Tenth book simply called 'Small Favor' is due out sometime in 2008. From the main character's point of veiw, Harry Dresden is the only working wizard in all of Chicago. Besides being on retainer for the Chicago PD special unit and doing cases for the regular joe, Dresden finds himself working with all that is magical - things that aren't human - be it evil or other - individuals that belong to a parallel plain called the Nevernever. Fey, Vampire, Ghost, Shapeshifter you name it... he deals his own special charm with them.
Scope out these pages and even sample the first few chapters to all of his novels. You will be hooked in no time.

I see all kinds of Dresden art, including the covers of the books, that show Harry wearing a hat. But I don't EVER remember the books mentioning a hat.
